Pack it Light, Wear it Right!
Ensuring that your child is appropriately carrying his/her backpack is a step towards maintaining spinal health!
Some experts believe that backpacks are a leading cause of injury in children. These injuries include:

Poor posture

Numbness in arms
-
Headaches
-
Muscle strain
-
Distortion of the spinal curve in the mid-low back
Here are some tips to help kids wear it right!

The backpack should be proportionately-sized to the child's body
-
It should be made of lightweight material
-
The shoulder straps should be padded by at least 2 inches wide
-
The back should also be padded
-
There should be a belt at the waist
-
It is useful to have many individual pockets to distribute the weight of items
-
The weight of the backpack should not exceed 15% of the child's weight
-
Pack the heaviest items closest to the body (the back of the schoolbag)

The child should wear both straps and they should be snuggly adjusted
